EDGE, via its technology arm Pride Labs LLC, is the world's largest publisher of mobile products for the LGBT community, publishing hundreds of websites and native apps for iOS and Android on behalf of community partners, businesses and organizations. We also produce the world's most popular LGBT news mobile app and the world's first LGBT digital magazine for iOS (launching for Android in Q1 2016).

Our subjects in this month's issue are tenacious and creative, having boldly challenged society's ideologies of fashion and style. Some epitomize the evolution of our LGBT community, while others transcend it. Some have left us in body, but their indelible marks continue to influence future generations.

The cover image, photographed exclusively for EDGE by Jason Kruppa with art direction by Topher Ellsworth (August 2013), was shot in New Orleans' French Quarter-far ahead of the subject of gender fluidity that now appears in the headlines of our mainstream media. The destination itself-named one of our 7 Gay Wonders of the World for 2017-continues to impress, as do the designs of the collections featured, including Versace, Armani, and Alexander McQueen.

Writer Dan Allen took an insider's peek into the life of Tom of Finland (March 2016) for the release of Tom House: Tom of Finland in Los Angeles. Chatting with the artist's muse, Durk Dehner, we gain a better understanding of how Touko Valio Laaksonen (Tom of Finland's real name) lived during his time in L.A., and how the home became a gathering place for fellow artists.

Rudi Gernreich also made his mark. As profiled by Andy Smith (September 2014), EDGE finally gave the underrated Gernreich his due. Escaping Nazi-occupied Austria, he came to the U.S. and was an early supporter of gay rights. Immigration and LGBT advocacy are just as hot button as they were when Gernreich arrived, as are his trendsetting designs, such as the monoki and Jockey-style briefs for women.

Sometimes the observer can become the influencer, as is the case with Richard Haines. Profiled in August 2014 by Ian Michael Crumm (who has become a social media sensation in his own right with more than 300,000 Instagram followers), Haines has made headlines with his street-inspired illustrations. Since our coverage, he has collaborated with luxury leather manufacturer Moore & Giles and was invited by the La Federation Francaise de la Couture to live illustrate the autumn/winter 2017 couture shows.

Our delve into women's wear has often extended across borders, as is the case with our feature about design house Merimekko by Jill Gleeson (July 2016). Although we have strides to make in order to break through the glass ceiling on domestic shores, this Finnish brand is leading by example, with 94 percent female employees. But we're not limited by mainstream fashion. Our women's editor Winnie McCroy showcased three brands pushing boundaries for what she describes as "tomboys and butches" (September 2014). But the ravages of the industry prove, once again, that only the strong survive, and Karen Roberts' HAUTEBUTCH is the sole survivor since the story first ran.

Sometimes it's not the "who" but the "how." One of my first style pieces for EDGE was "Trash Chic" (February 2014), which featured disposable and unconventional items repurposed to make fashion. With the pending administration, our commitment to the environment is as relevant as ever. Some choose to view their bodies as a canvas for expression, as I highlighted in "Tattoo Street Style" (October 2015)-a collection of stunning portraitures by Nicolas Brulez, who has traveled the world to photograph body art.

When the day is done, we all want to settle into someplace that feels like home. Adrienne Johnson found out how the founders of Homepolish are reinventing how we approach interior design (May 2016). And of course, I had to include a bit of our namesake edge by including Cellblock 13 (July 2013). From "liquid skin" to neoprene rubber harnesses, there's plenty to pick from for your next fetish party or just to wear around your stylish home.
