Embattled actor Jussie Smollett broke his social media silence to cover Steve Wonder's "A Place in the Sun" amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Smollett, who hasn't posted on Instagram since June 2019, shared a video of himself on the social media platform covering the Wonder track. In the caption, he wrote: "Quarantine day 421... Hope y'all are staying safe. Spread love and kindness... not Rona."

The "Empire" star made headlines in early 2019 for reporting he was the victim of an alleged racist and anti-gay attack in Chicago. After an investigation, he was indicted for disorderly conduct for allegedly faking a hate crime and filing a false police report. Eventually, the actor's defense team reached a deal with prosecutors and charges against him were dropped.

The legal battles still continue, however, as the city of Chicago filed another lawsuit against Smollett for the cost of overtime authorities used into investigating the alleged attack, with the actor filing a counter-suit, saying he was the victim of a "mass public ridicule and harm" and that he shouldn't have to pay for the investigation. Last month, after further investigation, Smollett was indicted again by a Cook County grand jury on six counts for allegedly making four false police reports.

After the story gained media attention, producers kicked Smollett off "Empire" and he was written out of the show.
