Taylor Dayne to Headline Delaware Pride
The First State will hold its 15th annual gay Pride on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The 2011 Delaware Pride Festival will include top international and local entertainers as well as more than 100 vendors selling food, beverages, arts and crafts and other goods and non-profit organizations. Organizers are expecting more than 3,000 LGBT people and their allies at this year's event.
Grammy-nominated artist Taylor Dayne, whose career has spanned multiple decades with such hits as "Tell It to My Heart" and "Beautiful", will headline for the festival. Other featured performers will include musician and comedian Jonny McGovern (a.k.a. The Gay Pimp) and singer Kelly King. Internationally recognized performer Jade Esteban Estrada will emcee Pride.
Pride comes less than five months after Gov. Jack Markell signed the state's civil unions bill into law. Same-sex couples can begin to legally enter into civil unions in Delaware on Jan. 1.
The festival is being held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cape Henlopen State Park near Rehoboth Beach. Advance tickets are available online for $5 or onsite for $7. Log onto www.delawarepride.org for further information.
