The combination of freezing temperatures and frequent handwashing tend to wreak havoc on our hands in the wintertime. But not all hand creams are created equal, and not all boast the ability to restore our hands to their former glory. Here are some hand creams that do live up to their hype. And, as always, we've tried all of them before giving them our stamp of approval.

L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream

According to the brand, one of these tubes is sold every three seconds worldwide, and once you bring home one of these babies for yourself, you'll understand why. A longtime staple of our wintertime routine, this cream is rich enough to provide immediate results, but non-greasy enough to be used throughout the day and while on the go. Best of all, a little goes a long way, so one tube will likely last you all winter long. $30, L'Occitane.

Avene Cicalfate Hand Restorative Hand Cream

Ideal for overnight use, this thick, occlusive, healing cream will turn around the state of your hands in no time at all. $25, Lovely Skin.

Kiehl's Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

Formulated with shea butter, avocado oil, and sesame seed oil, this is another versatile hand cream that won't leave everything you touch looking like an oil slick. The inclusion of eucalyptus leaf oil also creates a nice cooling sensation that helps further fight any feeling of tackiness. $22, Kiehls.

Soft Services Theraplush Overnight Repair Treatment

Housed in an attractive airless pump that is meant to live on your nightstand, this frequent sellout makes applying hand cream in the dark a breeze. Not only do we love the no-mess dispenser, but the formulation is pretty great, too. Ingredients like retinol and colloidal oatmeal work together to restore skin, cuticles, and nails while addressing texture, dryness, and damaged cuticles. $58 (refills cost $36), Soft Services.

Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream

The lightest hand cream on this list, this Clarins staple is our go-to hand cream for the warmer months. But for those who don't need an intensive treatment or who despise the feeling of thick hand cream, this lightweight cream is just the thing. We've been using it for over a decade and we have no plans to stop. $32, Sephora.
