A New Season of Couture Confections at Paris's Cafe de la Paix

Paris, France (January 2011) - InterContinental Paris Le Grand announces its latest fashion pastry, "Brigadeiro," designed by Brazilian fashion designer Alexandre Herchcovitch.

The hotel's celebrated Caf de la Paix introduces its 6th fashion pastry collection, paying homage to the irrefutable explosion of creativity from Brail, Russia, India, and China to create a new dessert series entitled, "The BRIC: So Chic!" The Brigadeiro dessert will be sold exclusively at Caf de la Paix in limited edition until May 15, 2011 (16 EUR per pastry).

Caf de la Paix's chef Christophe Raoux together with head pastry chef Dominique Costa prepares a decadent dessert composed of chocolate truffle, Herchcovitch's rendition of a classic Brazilian pastry.

The Brazilian designer's dessert takes the form of a cylinder-shaped, openwork chocolate casket enclosing a traditional Brigadeiro. The hint of the beaten egg whites, a French touch, gives the mousse a delicate frothiness uncommon to this pastry - a feast not only for the palate, but also for the eye.

"This union of fashion and gastronomy is so very French. I am thrilled to be able to bring a little of my country's cuisine to France," says Herchcovitch, who is delighted with his first-ever venture into the world of gastronomy.

He added, "I found this project most interesting as I do a lot of cooking. Personally I prefer savory foods; the Brigadeiro pastry is about the only dessert I know how to prepare."

"Brigadeiros are a favorite birthday treat for children," explains Herchcovitch. "These truffles are easy to make and are available in an infinite variety of styles and tastes. With the French Brigadeiro, this encounter between a typical Brazilian delicacy and a French chocolate mousse, France and Brazil are truly engaged!"

Following Herchcovitch's creation, Valentin Yudashkin, Manish Arora and Frankie Xie will each put their spin on a pastry of their choice reflective of their culture and traditions.

Caf de la Paix continues to be the only single restaurant worldwide to permanently feature designer pastries on its menu, in limited editions each for a four-month period.

The series began in 2005 with the Cinq Cents Feuille pastries, which were given a new look and taste by the four leading ladies of French fashion - including Chantal Thomass and agns b. - and through the years has featured the creative touches of sartorial royalty, from the whimsical creation of extravagant costume designer Paco Rabanne to the sleek design of cosmopolitan clotheshorse Franck Boclet of Emanuel Ungaro.
