In an apparent response to those who questioned his commitment to marriage equality, Gov. Andrew Cuomo reaffirmed his support for nuptials for gays and lesbians in a video he released on Monday, May 23.

Cuomo also urged New Yorkers to contact their legislators and urge them to support a marriage equality bill.

"This is a matter of fairness and equality," he said.

The governor's video comes less than a week after "Vogue" Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour publicly endorsed marriage equality in her own video.

State Sen. Diane Savino (D-Staten Island) confirmed to marriage equality supporters in Manhattan last Thursday, May 19, that there are currently 26 pro-marriage equality votes in the state Senate. A marriage equality bill needs 32 votes to pass.
