Gay Days® 2011:: Beyond the Magic Kingdom!
JC Alvarez READ TIME: 4 MIN.
Caught in the haze of Gay Days? We can relate. Since it began back in 1991 the gathering that turns the Magic Kingdom and all of the surrounding theme parks into the gay epicenter of the party circuit, has grown to become much more of a spectacle! It's not just a day at the Disney park. Universal Studios and Typhoon Lagoon have also gotten into the act with huge parties all of their own expanding the celebration well into the weekend.
A great place to start the weekend is certainly at the fabled Parliament House (Thursday, June 2 11pm - 3am) with their PI @ PH event and experience the "largest laser light show in Gay Days history!" That's a tall order considering the entire experience is smack dab at the center of the most imaginative theme parks in the world! Parliament House is also hosting some of the most star-studded live shows of the week with appearances from fan favorites including Salt 'n' Pepa, Kat Deluna and Blake Lewis!
Looking to get wet? Among the countless pool parties to attend may we suggest Riptide at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon (Friday, June 3 8pm - 2am) with DJ and music producer Randy Bettis. The event is a dedicated celebration to all of our men and women in the armed forces that recently rode the wave of the political monsoon that was Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Bettis has promised there will be an incredible surprise and he will be recording the soundtrack for an upcoming release on Centaur Records - more on that soon (wink). Velocity, the afternoon pool party at the Doubletree by Hilton Orlando at SeaWorld is also one of the greater events that is FREE and open to all guests registered through GayDayS.com. We like free!
Get Your Party On!
There will be uncountable opportunities to get your groove on -some without leaving your host hotel, but with so many parties to attend and so much ground to cover you really can't go wrong at Gay Days this year! One of the most anticipated events of the weekend is sure to be the Matine Group's Ibiza Rising at Universal Studios Florida (Saturday, June 4 9pm - 2:30am). With a show design by Mark Baker, and not one but two incredible DJs at the turntables - DJ Taito Tikaro from Ibiza and NYC's own Hector Fonseca -anyone familiar with Matine's signature party experience knows this is not to be missed!
And we all know where Alice will be heading after the Mad Tea Party this year...Pandora Events has something for all the ladies to enjoy but their Girls in Wonderland 10th Anniversary at the House of Blues (Saturday, June 4 9pm - 2am) is going to be their biggest yet and one of the most spectacularly attended parties of the weekend. Celebrity sightings will include some of the ladies from Showtimes's The Real L Word!
Wrapping It Up!
Riptide's coverage of the weekend doesn't stop at Typhoon Lagoon! Retro-T at Disney's Epcot Center (Sunday, June 5 2pm - 9pm) with DJ Michael Tank will give party goers a retro blast from the past as revelers drink around the world in a futuristic setting. For some that should be enough to guarantee a smooth recovery on the trip back home!
Remember to wear red to be counted on Saturday if you're visiting Disney World. But with Gay Days becoming such a seasonal draw it's going to be impossible not to be counted. The weekend is as diverse as our ever-changing community is. It's no longer just a circuit event that gets the attention of the young and hot, fit-to-be-seen-or the circuit A-List. Gay Days has enough to offer something for everyone and has expanded its activities to include families, friends, and especially those among us with children ready to make a new family memory!
When you wish upon a star - anything is possible! So what are you doing after winning the Super Bowl (or its gay equivalent)? I'm going to Disney World and Orlando for Gay Days 2011!
