Providence's Youth Pride Hosts Annual Awards Dinner Dance

PROVIDENCE, RI - On Thursday, November 10, Youth Pride, Inc. will host its annual Awards Dinner and Dance to support Rhode Island's gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth. Held at the Providence Biltmore Hotel, the evening will also include a Reception and Silent Auction.

Proceeds support the organization's mission to provide a safe space, programs and services for youth and young adults impacted by gender identity and sexual orientation expression.

The organization's largest annual fundraiser, this event honors individuals and groups who have provided vital resources that address the needs of youth served at the drop-in center and throughout the community. Recipients this year include Ken Fish, Options Newsmagazine, and Noah Rory Mann. Also to be recognized are the many youth who compose the core of Youth Pride, Inc.

"We view this event as a celebration," said Kerri Kanelos, Youth Pride Inc.'s new Executive Director. "Our Awards Dinner is the one time of the year when we bring the youth we serve and the supporters of our organization together to recognize those who make all that we do possible."�

Fundraising at this year's event is more critical than ever as the economic climate continues to have an effect to funding opportunities and as Youth Pride, Inc. prepares to move its drop-in center and program offices to a new, more accessible space.
As Kanelos explains, "We are very excited that our new space will be more visible in the community, which will lead to us serving more youth."

Youth Pride Inc.'s goals are to meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth and their allies through empowering programs of support, education, organizing and advocacy, while working to change the homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic environments in which they live.
A 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, Youth Pride relies on the generous support of its donors and volunteers to serve the youth of Rhode Island.

Long-term New Yorkers, Mark and Robert have also lived in San Francisco, Boston, Provincetown, D.C., Miami Beach and the south of France. The recipient of fellowships at MacDowell, Yaddo, and Blue Mountain Center, Mark is a PhD in American history and literature, as well as the author of the novels Wolfchild and My Hawaiian Penthouse.
