Fight the First Signs of Aging at the Spa
MIAMI BEACH, FL - As most of us know, unhealthy food, air pollution, too much sun exposure, and stress are just some things that cause our skin to age faster now than in the past. Luckily, in recent years there are a multitude of non-invasive procedures that can help to slow down and fight the aging process.
Josie Feria, Director of Spa Operations at Fontainebleau's Lapis Spa, understands how to prevent and fix skin of any age, and below is her insight on at home and spa treatments you can do to keep skin looking younger, longer.
For those in their 20s
What To Expect: Most will not see any signs of aging, but that doesn't mean there is nothing lurking beneath the surface.
What To Do At Home: This is the decade of prevention. The best prevention is daily sunscreen with UVA and UVB coverage. Make sure every time you are in the sun, sunscreen is on your face and any exposed body parts. Also, no matter how tempting you must avoid tanning beds. According to the skin cancer foundation, people who first use a tanning bed before age 35 increase their risk for melanoma by 75 percent.
What To Do At The Spa: Get facials. The face is always subject to the elements such as the sun, smoke or pollution. Facials offer you the opportunity to work with a professional skin care specialist who will analyze your skin, help you improve your complexion and show you how to take proper care of your skin and to develop proper habits that will keep you skin healthy later in life.
For those in their 30s
What To Expect: Most will begin to start to noticing fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth.
What To Do At Home: Use facial creams and lotions with Vitamin C. Medical science has shown that Vitamin C face creams and lotions are used to diminish age spots, fight against free radicals that damage skin and help to rejuvenate skin by promoting elastin and collagen development.
What To Do At The Spa: Look for treatments that offer vitamin benefits as well as relaxation. Lapis spa offers guests an antioxidant vitamin pack which actually reduces damage from sun exposure and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C and A clarify and brighten skin improving texture.
For those in their 40s
What To Expect: Most will see cumulative sun damage in the form of blotchiness, red spots, and ruddiness. The skin is beginning to lose moisture which also makes it lose some its youthful glow.
What To Do At Home: Use creamier, richer lotions, or serums making sure each contains at least two types of antioxidants, such as lycopene, green tea, or soy. If skin is starting to dry out use rich moisturizing creams that contain hyaluronic acid, petrolatum, shea butter, or oils. Also, be sure to use lotions and creams on your neck, chest and hands, two areas that show signs of aging and are often overlooked.
What To Do At The Spa: Oxygen facials are great for people in their 40s. Lapis spa offers two different types of oxygen facials. The pure oxygen infusion facial which infuses skin of moisture, vitamins and antioxidants into the skin with age-defying results. Skin is re-hydrated, luminous, plumped up skin in an hour.
The age defying facial allow infuses 98% pure oxygen into the skin with anti-age serums to restore vitality and glow. Oxygen facials combat visible signs of aging linked to poor transmission of oxygen from subcutaneous capillaries to the surface of the skin. They address this deficiency by delivering highly concentrated oxygen molecules directly to the epidermis. A stream of high-pressurized oxygen infused with botanical, vitamin, mineral, and nutrient extracts is applied to the face and neck. The oxygen absorbs the moisturizing agents into the skin for a smoother, plumper look, providing a healthy glow.
For those in their 50s
What To Expect: Most will begin to notice dryer, thinner and more sensitive skin due to increased collagen break down, which results in more wrinkles, loss of firmness, and sagging.
What To Do At Home: Increase the use of medical-grade rich moisturizers with active ingredients such as Vitamin C and Peptides. Also use medical-grade skin products that are designed to treat lines and wrinkles while tightening skin, and make healthy lifestyle changes to protect your skin.
What To Do At The Spa: Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive anti-aging procedure that promises a number of benefits for all skin types. In this procedure, the skin is buffed smooth using a small wand that sandblasts fine crystals directly onto the skin's surface. This procedure is designed to buff away fine lines and wrinkles, skin irregularities and lighten age spots so that the skin is left glowing. Collagen levels are increased over time as the skin begins to heal itself.
