Major League Baseball Players Matt Cain, Yovani Gallardo Join NOH8 Campaign

In the wake of the San Francisco 49ers It Gets Better video, news has surfaced of Major League Baseball pitchers taking a stance for marriage equality by posing by themselves and their families for the California based NOH8 Campaign. Three-time-All-Star and World Champion Matt Cain from the San Francisco Giants, Mat Latos of the Cincinnati Reds, and 2010 National League Silver Slugger winner Yovani Gallardo for the Milwaukee Brewers are the first current Major Leaguers to lend their faces to marriage equality.

The NOH8 Campaign was started just after Proposition 8 passed on November 8, 2008, in California that recalled California's marriage equality law. The NOH8 Campaign is a silent, photographic protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley. Photos depict subjects with duct tape over their mouths symbolizing their voices being silenced by Proposition 8 and other legislation worldwide, and NOH8 painted on one cheek in protest.

These three pitchers join a growing list of athletes who use their celebrity to bring attention to the NOH8 Campaign's mission. Recent athletes who have joined the NOH8 Campaign include NFL free agent C.J. Gable, New England Patriots safety Bret Lockett, NFL free agent Nic Harris, former MLB player Billy Bean, former NFL player Esera Tuaolo and Portland Timbers defender Mike Chabala. Billy Bean and Esera Tuaolo have recently come out of the closet since their retirement.
