PORTLAND - Gay marriage supporters in Maine have begun airing a new TV ad that features a Republican state representative who voted against same-sex marriage in a 2009 referendum but has since changed his mind.
In the ad put out by Mainers United for Marriage, Stacey Fitts of Pittsfield says he now thinks that government shouldn't tell anybody "who they can love and who they can marry." He said the Nov. 6 ballot question seeking to legalize same-sex marriage protects religious freedom and individual freedom.
The ad began airing Tuesday across the state.
Mainers United is launching another ad on Wednesday that features a couple from Biddeford with a gay daughter who talk about their support for legalizing gay marriage.
