Fla. Gay Man Commits Suicide After Obama is Re-Elected

A gay man in Florida apparently killed himself two days after Barack Obama was re-elected as president after telling his partner, "if Barack Obama gets re-elected, I'm not going to be around," the Miami Herald reports.
On Nov. 8, Henry Hamilton, 64, who was the owner of a tanning salon in Key West, Fla., was found dead in his home with the words "Fuck Obama!" written over his will. Two empty bottles of prescription drugs for anxiety and schizophrenia were also discovered next to Hamilton.
According to police spokeswoman Alyson Crean, the authorities are still waiting for autopsy results to find out the official cause of death. She did say, however, "there's absolutely no evidence of foul play."
The police report states that Hamilton's partner, Michael Cossey, returned to the couple's condo after spending the night with friends and fell asleep on the sofa around 6 a.m. But Hamilton's friend was concerned about him and had a police officer Pablo Rodriguez to check on his friend. When Rodriguez went to the couple's home, he woke up Cossey and they then discovered Hamilton's body in the bedroom.
Dykes said there were two empty prescription bottles near Hamilton. One was for Xanax and the other for Seroquel - drugs that individuals use to help them with anxiety and schizophrenia.
Cossey told Dykes that his partner was "very upset about the election results." He also told authorities that Hamilton "has been very stressed about his business" and the last time they talked was "when we watched the election results," which was on Nov. 6.
Some may find it odd that a gay man would commit suicide over Obama's win as he announced earlier this year that he would champion LGBT rights and approve same-sex marriage on the federal level.
