Lesbian Pro Poker Player Wins $1.4M in Tournament

A lesbian professional poker player, who recently became engaged, just won the PokerStars High Rollers Tournament and took home more than $1.4 million for placing first, PokerStars.com reports.

Vanessa Selbst, 28, made history when she won the PCA competition as she became the highest-earning woman in poker and beat out several male players,

"There's plenty of room for women to get involved in this game, to get really good at it, and to beat all the guys," Selbst said.

Selbst went head-to-head with Russian Vladimir Troyanovskiy, who gave the out poker star a run for her money. Even though he had a slight advantage when he doubled his winnings at one point, it wasn't enough to take her down.

"It feels really, really good to win a High Roller," Selbst said. "This is probably the toughest final table I've ever played at. So, to be able to come out on top is really special."

In a video clip Selbst discuses her engagement and says, "I proposed to my girlfriend and we're going to get married." She went on to tell PokerStars.TV, "I thought if I did it the night before the Super High Roller, that would make me, like, extra lucky. So far it's been working, so I think that was a pretty good strategy."

In similar news, it was reported earlier this month that ESPN aired out-professional blower Scott Norton hugging and kissing his husband Craig Woodward after he won the 2012 PBA Chameleon Championship. During the event, ESPN's announcers called Woodward Norton's husband and some believe it was the first time an out athlete has been shown embracing his partner on a major network.
