US Businesses Come Out in Support for SCOTUS Rulings

Officials from some of the nation's best known businesses have released statements applauding the Supreme Court's landmark ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act and Proposition 8, echoing long standing support for LGBT rights, the Huffington Post reports.

"Equality is a core value of the company. Starbucks has offered domestic partner benefits to our partners for more than two decades," Starbucks said. "That said, we are very pleased with today's ruling. Starbucks always puts our people first, and we will continue to advocate for equality inclusion."

"Apple strongly supports marriage equality, and we consider it a civil rights issue. We applaud the Supreme Court for its decisions today," Apple officials said in a statement.

"Orbitz has a long-history and deep commitment to promoting tolerance, non-discrimination and equality as an integral part of our employment practices as well as our marketing efforts... we applaud today's Supreme Court decision," the online travel said in a news release.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, who has been a supporter of LGBT rights in the past said, "Today's decisions help define who we are as a people, whether or not we are part of the group directly affected," CNN Money reports.

"We applaud the Supreme Court's decisions in today's historic rulings. Though the struggle is far from over, today is a pivotal step forward in the on-going fight for marriage equality," officials from Levi Strauss & Co. said, according to HuffPo.

"UBS is pleased with today's decision, as our firm is committed to equality for all our employees and maintaining an inclusive workplace. We were proud to be one of the firms who signed the amicus brief in support of the repeal of DOMA," UBS, a Swiss global financial services company said.
