Sweeney:NJ Gay Marriage Would Pass with GOP Support

WESTFIELD, N.J. - The head of the Democrat-led New Jersey Senate says a bill legalizing gay marriage would pass if Gov. Chris Christie allowed Republicans to vote for it.
Senate President Stephen Sweeney says there is no question the governor is exerting his will over fellow Republicans in the fight over gay marriage.
The governor vetoed a gay marriage bill last year. So far, no override has been attempted.
Speaking on radio station New Jersey 101.5 Tuesday, Sweeney said several Republicans would support the measure if free to vote their conscience.
Christie recently called the suggestion that he controlled the vote "insulting."
Christie supports civil unions.
Democrats on Tuesday are planning to take the gay marriage fight in the form of a news conference to Westfield, where Republican Senate minority leader lives.
