EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.
WASHINGTON - This August, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) - the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization - will open a temporary retail location in historic Fire Island Pines. Located in the heart of one of the most well-known LGBT summer destinations, the HRC pop-up shop will offer visitors a unique opportunity to support the organization's work for nationwide LGBT equality.
Visitors will also be treated to a new view as they approach Fire Island by ferry. "For the first time, we will switch out two of our flags in support of HRC. We believe strongly in the work HRC does, and are enthusiastic to lend our support in gratitude of all they do," said Constantino Papadakis, Blesso Properties' Asset Manager and General Manager of FIP Ventures. "The Blue Whale is one of the most historic and iconic parts of the Pines' landscape. The flags proudly waving out front are the first thing people see when approaching on the ferry, and we have never allowed an outside entity to display their flag."
"Even before Stonewall, Fire Island has been a haven for the LGBT community and we're thrilled to cap off this summer's historic Supreme Court victories in this unique, welcoming place," said Don Kiser, Creative Director for HRC. "To see HRC flags waving proudly amongst the traditional rainbow flags is such an incredibly iconic image for these historic times."
The shop will be open for business from August 9th-August 19th in the Botel next to the Blue Whale in Fire Island Pines. Among the items on sale at the HRC shop are a limited-edition Red Wagon tank features the iconic Fire Island red wagon and limited-edition Boardwalk square cut swimsuits, designed exclusively for HRC. In addition, the pop-up shop will feature a number of other membership premiums including equality sunglasses, beach towels, and select Love Conquers Hate items.
HRC has previously opened pop-up locations in Palm Springs, CA; Chicago, IL; New York City; Rehoboth Beach, DE; Charlotte, NC and New Orleans, LA.
