After Seven Years, Dr. Marjorie Hill to Leave GMHC

After seven years at the helm, Dr. Marjorie J. Hill is leaving her post as CEO of GMHC, New York's oldest AIDS Service Organization. Janet Weinberg, GMHC's Chief Operating Officer, will continue to serve as GMHC's interim CEO.
"Leading GMHC during the last several years has truly been an honor, but after more than seven years as GMHCs CEO, longer than any other head of an HIV/AIDS service organization, it is time for me to pursue new opportunities," said Hill. "I care deeply about GMHC's mission and look forward to giving any help I can to ensure that the transition to new leadership goes smoothly."
During her time as CEO for GMHC, Hill provided oversight for more than 400 prevention, care and treatment programs and is especially proud of the historic expansion of Syringe Exchange Programs, enhanced NYC inter-agency collaboration and the 5 million male and female condoms distributed annually during her tenure.
GMHC provides a continuum of services to 11,000 men, women, and families living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, and a world-renowned legacy of health-care advocacy, promoting social justice and supporting LGBT rights. Dr. Hill previously served as GMHC's Managing Director for Community Health, where she had responsibility for the Women's Institute, the Institute for Gay Men's Health (IGMH) and coordination of community-level health promotion initiatives.
"GMHC is most grateful to Dr. Hill for her many years of service not just to our organization but to the issues of prevention, treatment, and advocacy concerning the landscape of HIV and AIDS in this country," said Myron Sulzberger Rolfe, Chair of GMHC's Board of Directors. "We wish her the very best on the next chapter in her long career in public service."
As of Sept. 29, 2013, Dr. Hill will no longer serve as CEO of GMHC. GMHC's Board of Directors is currently identifying potential candidates to serve as its next leader as GMHC faces new issues and challenges in the years ahead.
