Grandfather's Supportive Letter of Gay Grandson Goes Viral
Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 2 MIN.
A letter that was apparently written by a grandfather, who condemned his daughter's decision to kick her son out of the house because he is gay, has gone viral after it was sent to the LGBT activist website, FCKH8.com, the Huffington Post reports.
Though there aren't many details about the letter (just yet), the grandfather writes to his daughter Christine that "kicking Chad out of your home simply because he told you he was gay is the real 'abomination' here. A parent disowning her child is what goes 'against nature.'"
"He was born this way and didn't choose it more than he being left-handed. You, however, have made a choice of being hateful, narrow-minded and backward," the letter reads. "So while we are in the business of disowning children, I think I'll take this moment to say goodbye to you. I now have a fabulous (as the gay {sic] put it) grandson to raise..."
Officials from FCKH8.com posted an image of the letter on their Facebook page on Sept. 30, with the caption, "Go Grandpa! (This awesome note was sent in by a supporter)"
As of this writing, the letter has over 7,680 likes, 2,896 shares and several comments.
"We were blown away by how this guy stands by his grandson and stands up against his own homophobic daughter. This is real l?ve!" FCKH8.com commented.
In the past, similar letters have also gone viral on social media, with a number of news outlets reporting on them. Last year, a letter of a father disowning his gay son went viral, when a 33-year-old Reddit user named "James" posted the heartbreaking letter on the website.
"James, this is a difficult but necessary letter to write," the letter reads. "I hope your telephone call was not to receive my blessing for the degrading of your lifestyle. I have fond memories of our times together, but that is all in the past. Don't expect any further conversations with me. No communications at all. I will not come to visit, nor do I want you in my house."
