Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Over the weekend, Lady Gaga got her little monsters excited when she announced she would release the album cover of her highly anticipated third studio album "ARTPOP" on Monday at 1 p.m. - with their help.
Mother Monster took to social media on Oct. 4 to tell fans that they can unlock the album cover to "ARTPOP" if they can get the hashtag "#IHeartARTPOP" trending on the social media website. She also announced that artist Jeff Koons designed the cover. Koons, based in New York City, is perhaps best known for reinterpreting common objects as art, such as creating balloon animals out of stainless steel.
On Monday, she told fans to go to her website to stream the album's unveiling.
"Join together with fans around the world to celebrate the release of the ARTPOP album cover, designed by the legendary Jeff Koons!" Gaga's website reads. "Beginning at 1pm ET on Monday, tweet using #iHeartARTPOP to unlock Gaga's latest album cover. Take part in person at special Clear Channel Outdoor billboards around the world, or watch a live stream of the New York reveal live from Times Square at LadyGaga.com. The reveal begins at 1pm ET on Monday, October 7th!"
The hashtag "#IHeartARTPOP" instantly trended to Twitter on Monday, successfully unlocking the album cover to "ARTPOP."
"I'm nervous&excited to share something that's such a piece of my heart. Something I cherish deeply. A real depiction of my mind through his," the singer tweeted on Monday morning.
She later added, "There is also a surprise! The center image of me is a new Jeff Koons sculpture to be exhibited nov.10 at the artRAVE ARTPOP's release party!"
The "Applause" hit-maker tweeted an edited version of the album cover, which had large portions cut out of the artwork, writing, "What did JEFF KOONS make of LADY GAGA?" Though the image is heavily edited, it appeared to look like the iconic Sandro Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus."
Now that Gaga has revealed the full album artwork, what do you think of it?
