Fla. Teen on Underage Relationship Case: I Was Set Up

Kaitlyn Hunt, the 19-year-old Florida lesbian who is in jail for her consensual relationship with a 14-year-old fellow student, spoke from jail just days after signing a plea deal that will keep her incarcerated until the end of December.

Hunt told local NBC affiliate WPTV-TV that she regrets sending her girlfriend sexually explicit messages over the summer, explaining that she feels her trust was violated and she was "set up in multiple ways."

Hunt and her defense team rejected the first plea deal prosecutors offered, and had a second one rescinded after it was revealed Hunt had still been in contact with the victim through thousands of explicit text messages.

"I do regret it because I trusted her as not only my friend but my girlfriend too. I felt I got set up in multiple ways and I got hurt by her," said Hunt.

She also said she wishes she could have spoken with her girlfriend's parents, who originally pressed charges against her and petitioned the school to have her expelled.

"I would have respected their wishes, and I would have sat down with them and had a conversation with them and it would have been different," she told the local station.

At the beginning of the 2012 school year, Hunt, who was an 18-year-old senior at the time, was in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old freshman at Sebastian River High School in Sebastian, Fla., a small town about 90 miles outside Orlando.

Hunt was expelled from school in February and charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery. She has been in jail since Aug. 20 and will remain there until Dec. 20, after which she will be under house arrest for two years, Assistant State Attorney Brian Workman, who prosecuted Hunt, told The Huffington Post.

Hunt plans to stay in the area and go back to school in January to pursue a career in nursing.
