Brinkin to Start Jail Term Soon

Gay rights advocate Larry Brinkin is expected to start a six-month jail term this month after being sentenced this week to five years of probation for felony possession of child pornography. Brinkin, 67, pleaded guilty to the charge in January.
"I deeply, deeply, deeply apologize for my actions," he said Wednesday, March 5 in San Francisco Superior Court, directing his comments toward friends, community members, and others, as well as "all children across the globe," and those who've been exploited by child pornography.
Judge Brendan Conroy ordered Brinkin to return to court March 12 to surrender. After his stay in custody, Brinkin will have six months of home detention with a monitoring bracelet. He must also register as a sex offender for life, among other conditions.
San Francisco police initially arrested Brinkin on child pornography-related charges in 2012. Assistant District Attorney Leslie Cogan has said that there were "numerous items of photographs as well as videos" involved, and that Brinkin's activity had gone back to October 2011.
Brinkin was a compliance officer for the San Francisco Human Rights Commission for more than two decades before he retired in 2010.
His attorney in the case was Randy Knox.
