It's Splits For Johnny Weir and Husband

Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir took to Twitter Wednesday to announce that he and his Russian husband Victor Voronov have called it quits.

"It is with great sadness that I announce that my husband and I are no longer together. My heart hurts, and I wish him well," he tweeted.

On Thursday he followed up and wrote: "No matter what, I am a cheerleader of love and partnership and creation. I am sad yet I am thankful that I was loved and that I could love."

The athlete, who ventured to Russia last month to be a commentator for the controversial Sochi Winter Olympics, later made a statement via Radar Online about the split.

"I have been sad for a long time," Weir said, "and unfortunately don't foresee a way to resolve our current marital issues."

Weir and Vornov were together for two years, as E! points out. E! also reports that the publicity hungry skater wrote a mysterious tweet earlier Wednesday morning: "A sad announcement is coming soon, and the only people I wish to speak with are @TheEllenShow and @Oprah."

The tweet, however, has since been deleted.

Earlier this month, Radar Online reported the couple was involved in an alleged violent domestic dispute. Voronov reportedly filed a police report, accusing Weir of biting him. The couple later asked a New Jersey judge to throw out the case, however.

E! reports Voronov, a lawyer, married the 29-year-old Weir in a New York civil ceremony on Dec. 31, 2011.
