Video of the Day: 80-Year-Old Grandpa Gets Equality Tattoo
Jason St. Amand READ TIME: 2 MIN.
To show support for his openly gay grandson, a man named Frank, who is almost 80 years old, got an equality sign tattoo on his wrist in a heartwarming new YouTube clip.
Will Wrench, who uploaded the video on Wednesday, writes:
Watch as my partner Joe's almost 80-year old Grandfather gets tattoed [sic] to show his support for gay rights. About a month ago, Joe got an equal sign tattoo in support of human equality, and Grandpa Frank wanted to show his love and support, too. The world is really blessed to have people like Frank, who not only love unconditionally, but also accept everyone for who they are. Please enjoy the video, and be sure to share so everyone can see what a great Grandpa Joe has!
In the five-minute 45-second clip, Frank explains to the tattoo artist why he got the inclusive ink.
"What made you wanna come in and get a tattoo today," the tattoo artist asks.
"I wanted to support my grandson, who is gay, and I think it's important that we show support for him," Frank replies.
Frank says his grandson, Joe, came out to him five years ago and that "he thought it was a big deal but I didn't think it was." He added that his grandson's entire family supported him.
"That's awesome, that's probably one of the best feelings in the world," the tattoo artist says.
"You're not kidding. We were a little concerned, not for my wife and I, but for his mom and dad," Frank added before saying that Joe is "a wonderful boy."
Frank, the tattoo artist and others joke that he may be the oldest man to get an equality sign, or a tattoo in general.
A woman in the video says that about five more of Joe's family members plan to come and get equality tattoos to show their support for LGBT rights.
