True Blood - The Complete Sixth Season

"True Blood" has gone to a new, albeit crazier place. The sixth season, available on Blu-ray, is uneven both in the quality of the season and of the bonus features. The bonus features either cater to complete noobs of the show or die-hard fans but neither are interesting. They also re-purpose "Inside the Episode" segments that were made for HBO. Sadly, these features are in no way special.

Season 6 finds the characters dealing with big reveals and upheavals both in their personal lives and the lives of all supernatural creatures. Bill (Stephan Moyer) emerges with epic superpowers. Sookie (Anna Paquin) learns she has more family and a certain demonic style vampire after her. Meanwhile, a "vamp camp" has emerged to try and study, and control the vampire race.

The bonus features are lacking. "True Blood Lines" shows all the connections between various characters and their relationships. It's a cute feature but mostly redundant because it focuses on so many characters you already know. The other feature is the "Vamp Camp Files." It's oddly specific and involved fake "files" about the plans of the fictional agency hell bent on eradicating vampires. But seeing as how this is fiction it doesn't really add much to the storyline. The bonus features don't show any deleted scenes or bonus footage. There aren't even interviews with the cast and guest stars. The audio commentaries are a little lacking. Stephan Moyer is one of the only main stars to appear.

"True Blood" is precariously close to jumping the shark. If you enjoyed this season the Blu-ray is worth purchasing. However, the bonus features are not the selling point.
