'Modern Family' Picks Up Tabs for Gay Weddings in NYC

"Modern Family" helped out New York City couples looking forward to starting their own families.
On May 12, ABC covered the cost of all marriage licenses and ceremonies for the city of New York at the New York City Clerk's Office to commemorate the two-part season finale to their show Modern Family.
Stonestreet and Ferguson announced the news on "Good Morning America" that morning when talking about their characters' wedding.
The finale will feature the marriage between Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), two characters who made up the prominent gay couple in the show. In a previous episode, Mitchell confronted his father about the wedding, asking him not to attend.
"I actually really applaud the writers for sort of going there with that relationship, because I think it's something very real and a lot of parents sort of have their own evolution with accepting a gay kid, and certainly Jay is going there with Mitchell," Ferguson, who recently married his husband, said, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The Emmy Award-winning show has become a favorite for many because it comically captures the issues families face in the 21st century.
Modern Family airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. on ABC.
