A West Virginia native is bringing a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender film festival to Lewisburg.
Officials say the Appalachian Queer Film Festival will make its debut in West Virginia this fall.
The festival is partnering with the Lewis Theatre for the film screenings and is scheduled for Oct. 23 to Oct. 26. The event also will feature panel discussions and musical performances.
Founder Tim Ward says the goal is to create a dialogue using film that broadens the hearts and minds of Appalachians.
Ward says the festival also aims to break down any stereotypes or preconceived notions people outside of Appalachia have regarding the LGBT community in West Virginia.
