Woman Spreads Nude Pics of Gay Florist in Alleged Hate Campaign

A Scottish woman is being charged with starting a hate campaign after she allegedly spread a near-naked photo of a gay florist in posters around town, with homophobic insults on it.

Gay Star News reports Fiona Meikle, 54, took the photo that gay florist Craig Kirkwood, 31, used to promote his west Scotland floral shop With Love in Paisley, Scotland, and created an insulting set of flyers, which she then posted at neighboring businesses around town on June 18.

The behavior is described as "a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm." The local Paisley Evening Times reported Meikle was arrested, and her defense agent Alastair Gray confirmed that his client denied the offense, brought under the Criminal Justice and Licensing Act of 2010, which alleges aggravation and prejudice related to sexual orientation.

They say that Sheriff Paul Reid has set a trial date for February 23, releasing Meikle on bail, with special conditions that require her to stay away from Johnston Street and to not attempt to contact Kirkwood. She will return to court for a pre-trial date when evidence against her will be shared.

Although Scotland has been divided on issues like same-sex marriage even after Scottish Ministers declared it "the right thing to do," the country recently made the news when the Herald Scotland reported the country offered asylum for LGBT refugees from Uganda who were facing persecution from that country's draconian anti-gay law.
