Madonna Shows Up For Jury Duty

Monday morning at New York County Court in Manhattan, instead of the accused getting all of the attention, all eyes were on a prospective juror -- Madonna. And quicker than a ray of light, she was gone. The New York Daily News reports.

The Material Girl showed up at 60 Centre Street in Manhattan to perform her civic duty at New York County court Monday. According to reports, she was fashionably late, arriving 30 minutes after the required 10:00 AM scheduled arrival time.

Flanked by two bodyguards and wearing a black suit and sunglasses, Madge was wisked into the court building where according to Page Six, her heavy gold chain necklaces set off metal detectors twice.

Page Six reports that after being led into the private office of the head clerk, she had a brief moment of shock when County Clerk Norman Goodman joked that she might have to be sequestered for a week.

She was excused for the day quickly when it was determined there were enough jurors on hand. She was not questioned for a panel. According to a court official, she was let go early because her presence was a distraction.

For Madonna, the third time was a charm. Prior to today's appearance, she postponed twice -- first after Memorial Day weekend when she used a doctor's note, and then again on June 30.

"I'm proud to do my job," the Upper West Side resident said, standing tall as she left the courthouse with a gaggle of handlers and security guards.

If you're in the Manhattan area and would like to catch Madonna's next scheduled courthouse appearance, you'll have to wait until 2020. She's off the hook for jury duty for six years.
