Police say a woman in New York City was cut in the face after she confronted a man who was hurling anti-gay slurs, DNAInfo reports.

The 29-year-old woman was with a group of people in the Lower East Side around 10:40 p.m. Friday. According to police, that's when Takeam Brison, 32, approached them.

According to the Manhattan District attorney's criminal complaint, Brison started to shout anti-gay slurs at the group, telling them to "go back to f-----ville" and called them "you lesbians, you homos."

The New York Police Department say the woman intervened, asking Brison why he would say that, Brison slashed the left side of her face and seriously injured her. The suspect then ran away from the scene and called 9-1-1, saying a group of homosexuals was following him.

Brison was arrested by NYPD and was found with a knife in his pocket. He was charged with two counts of felony assault, including felony assault as a hate crime, DNA Info reports.

The incident comes a few weeks after Corey Pohan, was charged with assault for sucker-punching Paul Martone, a dog walker and bartender at a gay club in New York City, in New York City's Hell's Kitchen.
