63 Texas GOPs Liken Gay Marriage to Pedophilia, Polygamy & Incest

There's a new dance craze that's sweeping the Lone Star State called "the Texas GOP Boot Scoot." The moves are simple, one step forward(ism) to acceptance followed by eight steps back into stupidity.

A court brief that links same-sex marriage to incest, polygamy and pedophilia that was signed by 63 Texas GOP lawmakers was filed Monday. It calls upon the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold the state's ban on same-sex marriage which was voided by a federal judge in February, Lone Star Q reports.

This move comes two months after the Texas GOP made international headlines for softening party platform plank language on homosexuality from out and out condemnation to the advocation of gay conversion therapy.

The brief which was filed by the Texas Conservative Coalition (TCC) in part reads:

"Another ground cited by supporters of Texas' marriage laws and subsequently dismissed by the district court is that recognition of same-sex marriage 'could lead to the recognition of bigamy, incest, pedophilia, and group marriage,'" the brief states. "As already discussed in this brief, restrictions on marriage relating to these moral considerations remain valid. Thus, the goal of actively trying to prevent those practices from becoming valid is entirely rational public policy."

The 63 Republican lawmakers who signed onto the TCC's brief include Sen. Dan Patrick, the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor, and Sen. Ken Paxton, the GOP nominee for attorney general.

In June, the Texas GOP made international headlines when convention delegates stripped stripped language from the party's plank on homosexuality that said:

We affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God.

In its place, delegates voted to adopt language supporting gay conversion therapy.

We recognize the legitimacy and value of counseling which offers reparative therapy and treatment to patients who are seeking escape from the homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy.

In late June, EDGE reported that Steve Munisteri, chairman of the Lone Star State's GOP went on the record as rejecting the discredited practice.
