HRC Rounds Up the 19 Most Anti-Gay Members of Congress

In an exclusive BuzzFeed report, the Human Rights Campaign released the 19 "most anti-equality" members of Congress - those who are the most anti-gay and against marriage equality in all of Congress.

The HRC is calling their list - the first of its kind - "The Hall of Shame." To be included in the list a lawmaker had to vote or co-sponsor a measure that "would enshrine discrimination into our nation's body of laws and our Constitution." HRC officials also said they went over lawmaker's public statements regarding LGBT rights.

There are 14 House members and five senators. There is only one Democrat - North Carolina Rep. Mike McIntyre. BuzzFeed reports that the HRC said McIntyre is in the "Hall of Shame" because he co-sponsored the Federal Marriage Amendment - a measure that aims to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

An other interesting note: 18 out of the 19 lawmakers are men. The only woman? None other than Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann.

"If you want to understand why LGBT equality has hit a roadblock in Congress, you don't need to look any further than these leaders of anti-LGBT obstruction and animus," David Stacy, HRC's government affairs director, told BuzzFeed. "These members go out of their way to oppose any step toward equal protection under the law or to protect LGBT Americans from violence, discrimination and harassment. They proactively work to undermine existing legal protections and promote anti-LGBT discrimination."

HRC plans to release its full scorecard for the 113th Congress on Thursday. For now, here are is full "Hall of Shame":
