Lesbian Christian Rock Singer Shows Love to Westboro Jerks

A Christian rock singer who came out as lesbian in August has shown her true WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) roots in a recent showdown with the notoriously homophobic Westboro Baptist Church from Topeka, Kansas.

PinkNews.com reports that openly lesbian Christian rock singer Vicky Beeching arrived at Portland on January 10 to an angry protest in front of the Christian conference where she was scheduled to present a keynote speech.

But instead of yelling at or shunning them, the singer stopped to pose for a photo with them, saying she was sympathetic that these young people had been focusing on hate rather than love.

"Arrived just now at #GCNConf to a loud crowd of Westboro Baptist protesters... and to a giant rainbow above them," said Beeching. "I smiled, said hello and told the Westboro Baptist folks we love each of them. Love wins over judgement... Many of them were younger than me, as you can see in that photo."

"Was a pretty unpleasant environment to walk through, right before I spoke, but thankfully these loud angry people are not representative of most Christians," she added.

A large group of pro-gay Christians outnumbered the Westboro Baptist Church protestors, and formed a "wall of love' to prevent the anti-gay group from reaching conference attendees.

But Beeching took it all in stride, quoting from Westboro's God Hates Fags website on her Facebook page that, "Apparently Westboro Baptist really don't like me... 'Westboro has picked this time slot because we see this rebel Vicky Beeching is the blind mess that'll be addressing the assembly of Satan.'"
