Bruce Jenner to Share Transition Story with Diane Sawyer

Olympic legend Bruce Jenner has agreed to sit down with ABC's Diane Sawyer and discuss his decision to transition to a woman, much to the consternation of NBCUniversal, which owns E!, the network he originally agreed to dish to.

Page Six reports that the 65-year-old Jenner will sit down with the ABC News journalist, which is slated to air in May. Portions of the special are set to start filming this week.

Although US Weekly had reported that Jenner would grant a TV interview and docuseries for E!, which airs the family's reality show, "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Jenner changed his mind and switched over to ABC, which caused "internal consternation" with NBC's news division.

TMZ.com reported on January 31 that Jenner has been gradually transitioning over the course of the past year, having gone through psychological counseling and various procedures, including the laryngeal shave to smooth out his Adam's Apple.

They noted that People magazine reported that his family has been supportive, especially the children, but that "the family filmed Bruce's formal announcement to them last month and during the conversation Kris freaked out."

Last week, stepdaughter Kim Kardashian talked about Jenner's "journey," which is expected to be a plot point on the upcoming season of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

"I think everyone goes through things in life and I think that story and what Bruce is going through, I think he'll share whenever the time is right," said 34-year-old Kardashian. "I feel like that's his journey to talk about."

And earlier today, the UK Mirror reported that Jenner's mother, Esther Jenner, gave her support, saying, "I just learned about [his transition]. Bruce filled me in, and we had a very long, long, long talk about it."

"I have never been more proud of Bruce for who he is, himself as a father, as an Olympian, a wonderful public speaker," said Jenner's mother. "He instills enthusiasm in people. He's gifted."
