Seattle Women's Chorus Spotlights 'Reel Women'

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Grab some popcorn and get ready for a movie-themed extravaganza with Seattle Women's Chorus' "Reel Women." From February 5-8, the women pull out all the stops for an all-star musical tribute to some of the silver screen's most famous and scintillating women.

"Listen in awe as 150 women belt out 'Hooray for Hollywood' and 'Let it Go,'" write the organizers. "Watch with glee as SWC's hilarious a cappella ensemble, Sensible Shoes, reminds the audience that 'Someday My Prince Will Come.' And join Cinderella, the Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, Mulan and the entire chorus as they demonstrate -- through song -- how the beloved Disney princess has evolved (or not?)."

Artistic Director Dennis Coleman and Associate Artistic Director Eric Lane Barnes dive into the film world with both feet. "Reel Women" offers an amazing array of creative musical references about powerful women both on and off the screen; films include "Fame," "Working Girl," "Erin Brokovich," "An Inconvenient Truth," "The Hunger," "Silkwood" and "The Bodyguard."

One additional outreach performance, to benefit CADA, Citizens Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse, is scheduled for the South Whidbey High School Performing Arts Center in Langley, Washington, on February 15.

Founded in 1979, the internationally renowned Seattle Men's Chorus, along with Seattle Women's Chorus (founded in 2002), are the largest community choruses in America; and the largest gay choruses in the world. Flying House Productions, home of Seattle Men's Chorus and Seattle Women's Chorus, ranks third among the state's music organizations with over 430 members of SMC and over 300 members of SWC.

"Reel Women" will be held at the Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center, 201 Mercer Street. Tickets to Seattle performances are $25-$60. For tickets or information, call 206-388-1400 or visit SeattleWomensChorus.org
