10 Must-See Mexican Beaches
EDGE READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Whether you're headed to Mexico for spring break or just looking to unplug on one of the world's most pristine beaches, the south-of-the-border white sands beckon.
EDGE discovered these beauties by using Trover, a travel destination-sharing app that curates lists of must see places around the world in a pretty spectacular interface (think Instagram meets Yelp).
1. Playa Paraiso
One of Mexico's true gems, Playa Paraiso really does live up to its name, which translates to "Paradise Beach" in English. There, you'll find yourself surrounded by white sand, crystal clear water, and lots of palm trees. You'll never want to leave.
2. Playa Carrizalillo
Located in the Puerto Escondido, Playa Carrizalillo has it all: water, great food, and calming waves that only add to the relaxing atmosphere. It's also a fantastic beach to take surfing lessons at.
3. Hidden Beach
The "Hidden Beach" in Puerto Vallarta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site only accessible by swimming in from the open ocean. The famous cave you'll find there at this beach was formed by the collapsing of a volcanic rock and truly is a sight to see. You won't want to miss this one.
4. Coco Beach
Right by the all-inclusive resort "The Reef Coco Beach Resort" in Playa del Carmen, Coco Beach is surrounded by a ton of things to do. In terms of water activities, you can snorkel, boogie board, and kayak along the coast.
5. Isla Esprito Santo
Isla Esprito Santo is an island in (the Mexican, not Bolivian) La Paz that is accessible via boat. Situated in the Cortes Sea, the island offers deserted beaches, snorkeling with sea lions, and camping among many other things.
6. Tulum Maya Temple
The beach situated just below the Mayan ruins in Tulum offers an incredible view of the Caribbean coast. Besides being pretty to look at, the beach is also a great spot for swimming and attracts many tourists. Don't forget your swimsuit!
7. Valentin Imperial Maya
The Valentin Imperial Maya is an all-inclusive beach resort that offers a luxurious experience for those who want it. The beach itself has super
soft sand and is great for taking picturesque strolls, which you'll need to do to reach the swimmable area of the beach.
8. The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort
The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort has a white-sand private beach where you'll be able to get some peace and quiet. Whether you want to nap in a hammock or just take in the coastal scenery, this beach will help you to unwind.
9. El Arco/Land's End
At the tip of the Baja California Peninsula, you'll come across this rock formation: "el arco," or "the arch." Also known as Land's End, this beach is accessible via water taxis or by kayak. What makes this beach even cooler is that you may be able to catch sight of sea lions and whales depending on the time of year.
10. Playa Escondido
For the less crowded, almost tourist-free experience, Playa Escondido in Sayulita is the way to go! This secluded beach hideaway will leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed. You'll definitely be able to read a book in peace here.
