And to think they called Nixon "Tricky Dick."
A new book that gives a rare behind the scenes look at the Oval Office has uncovered that President Lyndon B. Johnson was obsessed with his penis and went to great lengths (no pun intended) and taxpayer expense to ensure that it remained sparkling clean for Lady Bird, Death and Taxes reports.
In the upcoming book "The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House" by Kate Anderson Brower, that features numerous interviews with White House staffers who served across multiple administrations, details emerged regarding a custom made shower requested by the 36th President, with a nozzle aimed directly at the Commander in Chief's penis.
According Brower's research, the president wanted multiple nozzles to "pump the equivalence of a fire hose, with water that instantly switched from cold to hot." Johnson also refused to entertain arguments that his tricked out shower would require complicated plumbing work.
"If I can move 10,000 troops in a day, you can certainly fix the bathroom any way I want it," Johnson reportedly said.
Brower's book isn't the first time that Johnson's obsession with his Johnson has been documented. Gawker points to a New York Review of Books piece on biographer Robert Caro's four volume book "The Years of Lyndon Johnson."
"He early became fabled for a Rabelaisian earthiness, urinating in the parking lot of the House Office Building as the urge took him; if a colleague came into a Capitol bathroom as he was finishing at the urinal there, he would sometimes swing around still holding his member, which he liked to call "Jumbo," hooting once, "Have you ever seen anything as big as this?," and shaking it in almost a brandishing manner as he began discoursing about some pending legislation.
[...]
Even on the floors of the House and Senate, he would extravagantly rummage away at his groin, sometimes reaching his hand through a pocket and leaning with half-lifted leg for more thorough access."
