APLAHW Hosts PrEP Community Forum

EDGE READ TIME: 2 MIN.

APLA Health & Wellness (APLAHW) is hosting a community forum about Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) at the Gleicher/Chen Health Center in Baldwin Hills on Tuesday, April 7.

The forum is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about Truvada, which is currently the only medication approved for use as PrEP. Taken daily, Truvada has proven to be over 90 percent effective at reducing the risk of HIV transmission.

"We know many people have questions about PrEP and may even be a little confused by different things they've been hearing about it," Wagner notes. "But we also know that Truvada is a powerful prevention tool for HIV-negative people. We want to give people accurate information in a way they understand and answer any questions they may have so they can make informed decisions about their own health."

The event will begin with an informal dinner, followed by a presentation and discussion about PrEP -- what it is, how it works, where to get it, as well as which insurance plans cover it. Speakers will include APLAHW COO Vallerie Wagner, as well as Raphael Landovitz, MD, MSc, of the UCLA CARE Center who is a clinical advisor to APLAHW for its Pendleton / Goldman PrEP program.

The event will be held in the space next door to the clinic. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation and discussion afterward. The event is free. Free parking is available on site.

THE APLAHW PrEP Forum will be held on Tuesday, April 7 at the Gleicher / Chen Health Center, 3743 S. La Brea Ave. (at Coliseum Street in the Baldwin Hills Shopping Center)
Los Angeles, CA 90016.
