SCOTUS Rules in Favor of National Marriage Equality in Landmark Decision

EDGE READ TIME: 1 MIN.

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of the United States decided that state bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional. The announcement Friday opens the door for gay and lesbian couples in all 50 states to marry.

The decision was based on a review of cases from four states - Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Oral arguments on these cases were held on April 28.

Seventy-two percent of Americans live in states that grant equal marriage rights to same-sex couples.
