SCOTUS Upholds Marriage Ban, But Must Recognize Out of State Marriages

The Supreme Court of the United States decided Friday that state bans on same-sex marriage are constitutional but those states must recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

The decision was based on a review of cases from four states - Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Oral arguments on these cases were held on April 28.

Seventy-two percent of Americans live in states that grant equal marriage rights to same-sex couples.
