Cocktail Culture: 8 Hydrating Drinks to Stay Cool This Summer

Matthew Wexler READ TIME: 3 MIN.

The heat is on. And while hydration comes in many forms, who can resist a thirst-quenching summer cocktail? Be sure to hydrate in between drinks, but for an extra boost of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and good old-fashioned H2O, consider EDGE's top picks for cocktails that pack more than an alcohol punch.

1. Cucumber
The Brooklyn Dill Pickle, served at Manhattan's iconic New York Hilton Midtown, is a refreshing twist on a traditional Gin and Tonic with local Brooklyn Gin, tonic water, muddled fresh dill, lime, and cucumber, garnished with a fried pickle chip. With more than 96 percent water content, cucumber has the highest water content of any solid food.

2. Mango
Miramar Tai at Sheraton Puerto Rico features gold rum, Triple Sec, Amaretto, fresh lime juice, passion fruit, mango puree and grenadine. Mangos are a great source of vitamins A, B6, and C, as well as fiber.

3. Coconut Water
Hilton Waikoloa Village serves the Guava Refresh Rita featuring Patron Silver Tequila, Orchid Guava Liqueur, fresh lime sour, and fresh coconut water, which contains electrolytes like sodium, magnesium, calcium and potassium.

4. Strawberry
The Martini Strawberry at 18 & Greene Steakhouse at Los Suenos Marriot Ocean & Golf Resort features Absolut, basil and strawberry. These hydrating berries are 92 percent water and studies show that people who eat one serving of strawberries per day tend to have higher blood levels of the B vitamin.

5. Blackberries
The Black and Blue-Berry Kentucky Lemonade from New York Hilton Midtown features Woodford Reserve bourbon, lemon juice and club soda over muddled fresh blackberries, blueberries and rosemary. Blackberries are high in antioxidants.

6. Pomegranate
The Pomegranate Margarita from Del Frisco's Grille
features hydrating pomegranate juice paired with zesty lime and kick of tequila.

7. Grapefruit
Secret Beach at W Retreat & Spa, Vieques Island features gin, fresh ginger, grapefruit, lime and grenadine. The chemical properties of grapefruit help control appetite, while fresh ginger is an anti-inflammatory and known to be a top hydrator.

8. Red Grapes
Fruits and Veggies, served at Battello, a waterfront restaurant in the Newport section of Jersey City, is a hydrating cocktail that starts with organic Crop vodka, which uses grains harvested from chemical-free soil. Then cucumber, red grapes, and St. Germain elderflower liqueur are added to give this cocktail a healthy kick.
