Colo. County Clerk Confirms Planned Parent Shooting Suspect is Not Trans

In the wake of comments made by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) last weekend, a county clerk in El Paso, Colo. confirmed Tuesday that the Planned Parenthood shooting suspect is not transgender, according to the Gazette.

The 2016 GOP presidential hopeful told reporters Sunday that Robert Lewis Dear, who is suspected in the fatal Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado Springs, is a "transgendered leftist activist."

"We know that he was a man who was registered to vote as a woman," Cruz said. "The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there is very little evidence to suggest that."

But Ryan Parsell, El Paso County's chief deputy clerk and recorder said his office mistakenly marked Dear's gender as a female in October 2014. The error was printed on his driver's license and his voter registration card, which identified him as a female.

"The Clerk and Recorder's Office processes over 500,000 transactions a year," Parsell told the Gazette. "Mistakes are going to be made, and it is a reminder to us of the important job that we do to see that a mistake made by us has had national implications."

Dear apparently had his driver's licenses fixed shortly after receiving the mistaken identification in the mail.

When Cruz was asked on Sunday if the incident was a an act of domestic terrorism, he said:

"I would call it a murder. It was a multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual. And it was horrific, it was evil and we will find out more about the facts, but I don't think we should jump to conclusions."

The senator added: "We don't know what those motives were, but whatever they were, it's unacceptable, and it's horrific and wrong."
