After Controversial Comments on Homosexuality, Carson Grilled at Campaign Event
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Dr. Ben Carson got a little more than he barged for at a campaign event Monday in New York when a woman confronted the Republican presidential hopeful, asking him point blank: "Do you think I chose to be gay?" ABC News reports.
The daring question comes several months after Carson made headlines for making controversial remarks, suggesting being gay is a choice by citing prisoners.
"...A lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight -- and when they come out, they're gay. So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question," Carson said last March.
At the campaign event this week a woman wearing a tee shirt of a local LGBT community center confronted Carson, saying, "I have a quick question... Do you think I chose to be gay?"
"Did you choose to be gay?" Carson asked.
"Yes, do you think I chose to be gay?" the woman asked again.
"That's a long conversation," the retired neurosurgeon said.
"I think you're full of shit," the woman replied with a smile before walking away.
Carson responded with "OK," and posed for pictures with supporters.
