Wynonna Judd's "Stories & Song Tour" Stops at Parker Playhouse

Mike Halterman READ TIME: 3 MIN.

Wynonna Judd has been a country music icon for over three decades. First making a name for herself in a family act with her mother before going solo, Wynonna's distinctive voice has made her stand out, and her playful and soulful hits have entertained audiences for years and have made her a country legend. Now she will be touring in support of her upcoming album, "Wynonna & The Big Noise," and one of her tour stops brings her down to South Florida. She will be performing at Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, January 21 at 8 p.m.

ABOUT WYNONNA

Wynonna Judd was born in Ashland, Kentucky in 1964. She has a younger sister, actress Ashley Judd. Wynonna taught herself to play the guitar at the age of 12, and after spending a little time down on their luck, Wynonna and mother Naomi moved the family to Nashville in search of a country music career when Wynonna was just 15.

Wynonna and Naomi were signed by RCA Records as The Judds in 1983, and in the next eight years, the duo would sell over 20 million records and would boast 14 #1 country hits. They were nominated for five Grammy Awards and nine Country Music Association Awards. Naomi's ill health forced the duo to split up, but Wynonna's future was looking bright when MCA Records signed her as a solo artist.

Wynonna's first solo single, "She is His Only Need," was released in 1992 and immediately became a #1 country hit. Afterwards, she released her first album, called Wynonna, and in the next year she would release three more successful singles: "I Saw the Light," "My Strongest Weakness," and "No One Else on Earth" (the latter becoming a crossover adult contemporary radio hit). Wynonna sold over five million copies and earned a five-time platinum certification.

Her 1993 album "Tell Me Why" boasted five top ten hits, including the crossover pop hit and title track, which charted on both the pop and adult contemporary charts. She lent her vocal talents to Clint Black's single "A Bad Goodbye," which became her biggest hit on the pop charts. When she returned with a new album in 1996, called "Revelations," she enjoyed much success from it, and she earned another country #1 hit, "To Be Loved By You." Her final album with MCA was 1997's "The Other Side," a blues-inspired album.

For most of 2000, she reunited with her mother Naomi and toured the United States together. The EP Big Bang Boogie featured Wynonna with her mother on an album release for the first time in 12 years. In 2003, she signed with Curb Records, and her new record label allowed her to experiment more with her music. She recorded a cover of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is," and a cover of Elvis Presley's "Burning Love." She also recorded a song, "You Are," which was used in the film Someone Like You, starring her little sister Ashley.

In 2005, she released a memoir, "Coming Home to Myself," and a CD/DVD, "Her Story: Scenes from a Lifetime." She also released a Christmas album, featuring Wynonna singing "Ave Maria" in Latin, called "A Classic Christmas." In 2010, the Judds reunited once more for a single, "I Will Stand By You." In 2011, she debuted her new band, "Wynonna & The Big Noise," and the band will release their first-ever album on February 12 of this year.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM HER STORIES & SONG TOUR
