Spring Cleaning: 3 Must-Try Mens Grooming Brands

Matthew Wexler READ TIME: 4 MIN.

Is two better than one? In this case, yes -- these dynamic duos will freshen your face (and other regions) for the season ahead.

Triumph & Disaster
Former New Zealand cricket player Dion Nash founded Triumph & Disaster in 2011, but it was his father who planted the seed for the men's grooming brand decades earlier by passing along the Rudyard Kipling poem "If" that reads:

"If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same . . .

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"

Triumph & Disaster delivers products built on the pillars of "ritual, character and fate." Translate that for the modern man, and you've got a range of products that relies on such indigenous ingredients as ponga fern combined with internationally sourced elements like Australian clay and tamanu oil from Polynesia. What you don't have are the bad boys of skincare products, such as parabens, petrochemicals and silicone.

EDGE Picks:
YLF Wash - This slightly medicinal all-body wash will stimulate the senses with notes of neroli and sandalwood, but its complex formula isn't just for show. Kawaka helps cleanse the skin, while essential oils such as argan and rosewood provide a nutrient-rich lather. 500 ml/$34

Gameface Moisturizer - Trust us, no matter your age you want a product that will lift and reduce wrinkles. A key ingredient is the antioxidant-rich horopito, a native plant dating back more than 65 million years that helps to tone and condition skin. 100 ml/$54

Kent & Bond
Borders couldn't keep friends Kent Santin (Maine) and Benjamin Bond (Canada) from combining forces to launch what they say is the first organic men's grooming brand. Their line includes a well-curated selection of body bricks (aka soap), body gel, beard oil, deodorant and body salve.

But it's not just what's in the products that makes Kent & Bond worthy of your grooming arsenal. Working with a global foundation, for every product purchased the brand donates a bar of soap to someone in need, stating that soap washing can reduce the risk of death from diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory infection by 50 percent. Good guys, good products, good deal!

EDGE Picks:
Charcoal Pine Body Brick - This chunky bar is handmade, aged for three months, and then hand cut and pressed. Pine essential oils pay homage to the founders' northern roots, while activated charcoal works as a natural cleanser. The gray lather rinses clean and will leave your skin fresh and exfoliated. Store on a soap rest that allows the bar to drain and dry until your next use. 6 oz/$14

Peppermint Zest Hydrating Body Gel - A refreshing body wash for everyday use, the gel offers notes of peppermint, basil and lemon. Don't worry, you won't smell like a mojito. The clean-rinsing lather strips away surface bacteria, opens airways and rinses clean. 8 oz/$16

Fulton & Roark
You may wonder how co-founders Kevin Keller and Allen Shafer came up with their throwback-style brand name. Jumble the letters as much as you want, but it still won't yield Fulton & Roark. Instead, they turned to the names of their mutts to create a vintage aesthetic that's committed to U.S. production and caters to the guy on the go. They've also paid attention to how the modern man uses them, including innovative formulations and package design.

EDGE Picks:
Solid Cologne - This is the item that put Fulton & Roark on the map, and with good reason. Packed into a shatterproof, metal container with a sliding, magnetized lid, the five-scent collection uses highly concentrated fragrances, ceresin wax and coconut oil to create long-lasting colognes that you can toss into a dopp kit, gym bag or carry-on. Our favorite is the Ltd. Reserve No. 2: Escalante, which offers notes of vetiver and bergamot. .2 oz/$42-$52

Shave Cream - This ultra-concentrated shave cream delivers a slick shave thanks to a blend of avocado, tea tree, jojoba and citrus oils, while fragrant notes of bergamot, spearmint and ginger grass invigorate. The packaging includes a built-in tube key to roll out every last drop. 100 ml/$16
