Dolly Parton Won't Cancel NC Show Over Anti-LGBT Law

Despite the trend of musicians canceling their North Carolina concert dates over the state's anti-LGBT law, country icon Dolly Parton said she has no plans to do so and intends to perform in the Tar Heel State.

In an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal, Parton said she has "no plans to cancel the show."

"I believe that everybody ought to be treated with respect, but I feel we will serve better from the stage," she told the newspaper. "I don't like to get caught up in controversial issues. I will address whatever I need to from the stage."

Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Star, Pearl Jam, and, more recently, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato are just some of the artists who have nixed their North Carolina tour dates over the state's controversial legislation, which prevents transgender people from using public bathrooms that align with their gender identity.

But Parton isn't alone in her decision: Cyndi Lauper revealed earlier this month that she will perform in North Carolina and donate proceeds of the event to causes that will repeal the law.
