Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival Presents Empowerment Day At Fremont Centre Theatre

On Saturday, August 27, the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival will present their 4th Annual Solo Performer Empowerment Day at the Fremont Centre Theatre. This is a full day of workshops and panels tailored to empower and enhance the careers of solo performers in particular, and an event full of information to benefit all performers, presented by Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival in association with the Fremont Centre Theatre.

This whole day event is full of career training from industry professionals, designed to give a boost to solo performers, and will also be of value to anyone contemplating theatrical production in Los Angeles or who wish to tour. Attendees will have a choice among seven workshops and panels.�

FROM THOUGHT TO PEN
9:30 a.m.�- 11 a.m.

This workshop will cover areas from thought to pen. Elements will address such topics as exploring why you want to create a solo show, developing a compelling voice, targeting one's market audience, creative visioning, and owning a compelling and unique story.

BUSINESS OF THE BIZ
9:30 A.M. - 11 A.M.

This panel focuses on union vs. non-union, how to select a director, how to negotiate fees and contracts for a solo show, how to select a theatre venue and how to partner with presenters. Participants will also learn how to barter or co-produce a production, and how to market a show for free using social media.

SUBMITTING A WINNING PACKAGE FOR A SOLO FESTIVAL

This workshop will cover the do's and don'ts you need to know for submitting an impressive presentation of your work for a solo performance festival, from your electronic application form to your photographs and action shots, as well as learning to write a compelling cover letter. You will learn to discern a winning, competitive DVD for an electronic submission. You will learn what goes into an engaging high quality performance that the panelists are looking for when they review your work.

BRANDING YOUR SOLO SHOW IN THE MARKETPLACE

This informative workshop will cover marketing strategies that include use of websites, newsletters, collateral materials that include postcards, programs, e-mail blasts, social media platforms that include blogs, video trailers and more. PR press and media, press releases, interviews and articles, radio, television and print outlets, as well as covering how to hire the right publicist, and how to utilize one's free resources will also be explored, followed by a Q&A.

HITTING THE ROAD WITH YOUR SOLO SHOW

This informative workshop will address identifying touring markets, how to take a solo show on the road from booking to navigating contracts and travel logistics, and building strong relationships with presenters. You will also learn how to use conference showcase time effectively, how to create a professional press packet and how to work with local press to build excitement about your show.

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

This panel discussion will cover the professional team needed to make a solo show shine from the director and producer to lighting and sound technicians, dramaturg to marketing and publicity, not to mention selecting the right theatre venue. Participants will also�learn how to create a supportive team that will make a dream show a reality!�

Founded in 1993 by Adilah Barnes and Miriam Reed, the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival holds the distinction of being the oldest Annual Solo Festival in Los Angeles celebrating powerful women performers. LAWTF is a critically-acclaimed international festival which has produced over 500 extraordinary solo artists from around the globe. These multicultural and multi-disciplined artists represent such diverse disciplines as theatre, dance, storytelling, performance art, performance poetry, spoken word, mime, aerialism, music, song, and stand-up comedy.
