IWMF Hosts 27th Annual Courage in Journalism Awards

On Wednesday, October 26, The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is hosting its 27th annual Courage in Journalism Awards ceremony, which includes a Lifetime Achievement Award. The event, which honors Mabel C�ceres, Stella Paul, Janine di Giovani, Diane Rehm and Sally Susman, will take place at Cipriani 42nd�Street.

The IWMF's 27th annual Courage in Journalism Awards ceremony honors female journalists who have exhibited extraordinary bravery and courage in reporting from areas of instability, oppression, and conflict. The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to well-respected journalists who have a credible and continuing record of supporting women in the media, and who exhibit a strong commitment to press freedom. Since its inception in 1990, the IWMF has honored more than 100 female journalists from 54 countries.

Bank of America is the National Presenting Sponsor for the 11th consecutive year.

Honorees include Mabel C�ceres, founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Peruvian independent paper El B�ho (The Owl), who has been subject to numerous death threats and libel suits; Janine di Giovanni, Middle East Editor at Newsweek and Contributing Editor at Vanity Fair, who has written extensively about humanitarian issues and conflict in the Middle East; and Stella Paul, a freelance journalist in India, who has focused extensively on development issues such as gender-based violence and sex trafficking.

Diane Rehm, the long-time host of the public radio show that bears her name, will receive IWMF's respected Lifetime Achievement Award for reportage spanning more than 40 years. Sally Susman, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Pfizer, will be recognized as the IWMF Leadership Honoree.
