Back from Season Five, Detox Dishes on 'RuPaul's All Stars 2'
Michael Cook READ TIME: 2 MIN.
From the minute she strutted the runway on the "RuPaul's Drag Race" season five finale in top-to-bottom black-and-white makeup, we knew we had not seen the last of Detox.
As part of the cast of "RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 2," she was one of the leading contenders to grab the crown. While she may not have taken the "All Stars" title this season, we have definitely not seen the last of Detox.
I sat down with Detox post "All Stars" finale, and we chatted about what ladies she was surprised not to see join her in the workroom this season, her stance on overly rabid fans of the show, and her upcoming projects (a cookbook)!
Detox, what made you come back for "All Stars" after such a strong showing on Season Five?
That's just it. Even though I made it to the top four on season five, I feel it wasn't that strong of a showing. I know I could have done so much better; I just wasn't present. So why not?!
Was it surreal being back in the workroom not just with girls from your season, but with girls from other seasons that you had not competed with?
It was like deja vu for sure, but I've worked with all the girls so much that I wasn't too concerned. We were all pretty supportive of each other.
Who were you surprised not to see return for "All Stars?"
A TON! Ongina, Milk, Delta Work, BenDeLaCreme, I would have loved to have seen some from season eight too...like surprise! Here's some bitch that you don't know.
Seeing you come back showed a Detox 2.0 of sorts; your signature talent and lip synch, but with a little extra heart. How have you grown since season five?
I'm a much more fully realized version of myself; I'm present. But I've always had a lot of heart. I think going through my father's battle with cancer just made it even easier for me to wear my heart on my sleeve.
What were some of your favorite parts about your "All Stars" experience? I would imagine hitting the runway with your sister is near the top.
Hands down. That challenge will forever be the highlight of my life.
Were you surprised at some of the hate that came on social media for some of the girls? Especially with the summer the LGBT community had, I would think we all definitely need to show each other some kindness and the best version of ourselves. What can we do to all do better?
It's ridiculous. It's a TV show. Grow the fuck up.
What's next for Detox post "All-Stars? More music hopefully?
Maybe. I'd like to but I don't want to put stuff out there just for the sake of it. I do have a cookbook coming out that I wrote with my mother and Detox's Life Rehab will be dropping soon on WOW Presents!
