Breakups Are the New Black: DeLaria Splits From Fairless

Love, it's a bitch. That's the sad story of the recent breakup of "Orange Is the New Black" star Lea DeLaria and her longtime fiance� Chelsea Fairless. However, the two are taking the breakup in stride, asking fans to "exclude us from the tragic and basic celebrity breakup narrative."

E Online reports that the two have ended their engagement and relationship, and will part as friends.

DeLaria posted a funny photo on Instagram of her with Fairless and a superimposed image of Michael Jackson and Elizabeth Taylor, writing, "Apparently this was an eerily prophetic choice of engagement photo as our relationship has since gone the way of David and Liza, with one small exception: our split is amicable. Please exclude us from the tragic and basic celebrity breakup narrative. We were happy together for four years and will remain in each other's lives. In fact, we look forward to finding new ways to torture each other. We would like to thank our incredible friends and families for their love and support ? xoxo Lea &@female_trouble."

The UK Daily Mail notes that, in a humorous touch, the two added the Roxette song "It Could Have Been Love" to the post, so that it would play while friends and fans read the announcement.

The 58-year-old DeLaria proposed to her thirty-something partner at the Netflix after the party for the SAG awards in February 2015, saying, "I proposed to her. Everyone saw how emotional I was... I was so filled with love." DeLaria, who plays the character "Big Boo," met Fairless four years ago through Fairless' old high school friend Emma Myles, who is an actress on the set of "OITNB," and the two had been an item ever since.

DeLaria and Fairless had meant to walk down the aisle together on Sunday, January 8 -- the same date as DeLaria's parent's wedding anniversary -- with comedian and longtime pal Sandra Bernhard officiating the wedding.
