Report: Man Sues Grindr After Alleged Attempted Rape, Murder

A New York man is suing the gay dating app Grindr, claiming it's being run recklessly. The man alleges a date harassed him and impersonated him on the app; and claims someone tried rape and murder him in 2015, according to a report from TMZ.

In his lawsuit, Matthew Herrick says he began dating someone in 2015 after meeting him on Grindr. Herrick alleges the guy he was dating created profiles on the app and impersonated him, using Herrick's photos and his work and home address.

Herrick alleges random men then came to his home and the restaurant where he works looking for sex. TMZ writes, "although the suit cites no specific instance of attempted rape and murder, it does offer up several examples of aggressive men coming to his home and workplace."

Just about a week ago, Herrick alleges a Grindr user came to his home and refused to leave. His roommate confronted the man in the hallway and told him he was calling police. The man allegedly then lunged at his roommate, grabbed his phone and wrestled him, TMZ reports.

Herrick says he's in "a constant state of hyper-vigilance, afraid that Grindr has been used to incite or seduce the wrong person -- somebody who will make good on threats to attack or rape [me]."

The suit comes after Herrick claims to have made 50 complaints with Grindr and 14 police reports.
